Tulipwood
Harpullia pendula
Tulipwood is a hardy, fast growing, small to medium evergreen tree with attractive, pale green foliage. In summer it has a display of pendulous sprays of greenish-yellow, slightly fragrant flowers followed by showy orange seed-cases that mature in winter and open to reveal glossy black seeds. Many councils consider it an excellent street tree as it does not have invasive roots, has a dense crown and does not grow high enough to get into the electricity wires. Indigenous to our area, it is happiest in full sun and is frost tender, but will tolerate dry conditions and most soil types.
